Something Rotten! | Assistant Set Designer

Santa Monica College

I had the privilege of working alongside the Set Designer of Something Rotten, Tom Buderwitz, as Assistant Set Designer for the Spring’24 production at Santa Monica College. My contributions to the production included the painting and facing of village house flats, painting of the theater stage pillars, floor, and Something Rotten signage, set decoration, and other tasks.

Something Rotten Signage

We projected the scroll and Something Rotten font onto a class room whiteboard, which allowed us to trace the outline and wording before cutting.

Muslin Painting for Flats

We painted sheets of muslin a mustard yellow to used for facing the Elizabethan-era styled house flats.

Facing the Flats

Cut and stapled the muslin sheets that we had previously painted onto the flat structures.
